Foodmuse founders featured on Slow Food panel
Foodmuse joined Slow Food South Bay for a panel discussion about Food in the Workplace. The goal was to discuss how to support values-driven farming at every level of the supply chain. The all-women panel included Emma Torbert a famer from The Cloverleaf Farm in Davis, CA, Tracy Harding, the GM of Capay Valley Farm Shop and Meghan and McKenzie of Foodmuse (speaking on behalf of their work for Airbnb in corporate dining). We all gathered at Hidden Villa which encompasses 1600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains and offers experiential education and responsible agriculture programs in a majestic setting. The discussion centered around the challenge farmers face in getting their products direct to consumers. Often the logistics challenge makes it impossible for small farmers to compete for the same markets as larger scale operations. One way to combat this is to utilize food hubs, such as Capay Valley Farmshop to handle the logistics side of selling product. The discussion concluded with a reading of Wendall Berry’s Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front which we highly recommend giving a read if you haven’t already!
